In the rapidly developing Indian economy, Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) form the backbone, providing employment to millions and contributing substantially to the nation’s GDP. Recognising their importance, the Indian government introduced a reformative measure in the form of Udyam Registration on 1 July 2020 to foster growth and provide a structured identity to MSMEs.
The Ministry of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises supervises the Udyam Registration process, intending to streamline the categorisation of Indian MSMEs and enable them to avail designated benefits. The registration integrates seamlessly with multiple government databases such as PAN, GST, and IT, ensuring accurate and efficient data processing.
This is a digitised procedure that necessitates the submission of specific personal and business-related details. Once all the details are validated and approved, an Udyam Certificate is issued, paving the way for a multitude of benefits for MSMEs.
First, visit the Udyam registration website at https://udyamregistration.gov.in/. Look for the section “Welcome to Register Here” and click on “For New Entrepreneurs”.
A new page will open. Here, you need to type in your 12-digit Aadhaar number. After that, click “Validate & Generate OTP” and enter the OTP sent to your Aadhaar-linked mobile.
Next, pick what type of business you have - Micro, Small, or Medium. Then, enter your PAN number and press “Validate.”
Now, you need to write down your full postal and office address. This includes the district, pin code, state, your email, and phone number.
After that, put in your bank details, including your account number and the IFSC code. Then, click “Submit.”
Here, describe what your business does – whether it's manufacturing or services. Also, mention how many people work for you.
Finally, choose your District Industry Centre (DIC). Agree to the terms and conditions, then click “Submit” and “Generate OTP.” Put in the OTP you receive and click “Final Submit.” This will give you your registration number.
